Dear Allergy Professional

You may know me personally because I belong to both the Academy and College and frequently attend annual meetings at which I have made many presentations over the past 39 years. My most important publications have been on inhaled steroids, because I have published the very first clinical trials in adults in 1972, and children in 1973. Perhaps you attended one of the six Charles Blackley Symposia I organized at Nottingham University between 1973 and 1993.

But my name is most likely to be familiar because of the standardized prick test needle which I invented in 1974. In 1985 Dr. Jim Ransom, of Topeka, began to market it in the USA through Allergard Inc., using my name as the trademark. The product was successful, being the first disposable testing needle, and when Jim sold to Alkaline Corporation in 1996 they became our distributors. This was satisfactory until last Christmas, when demand for further supplies from England ceased altogether. All was explained when it was discovered that Alkaline were manufacturing a slightly different product themselves without my knowledge or consent, and selling it under my name, which is their registered trademark.

This is why the name of the original design of the needle has now been changed to AllerSharp and is available from our new distributors Quorum Pharmaceuticals. Tel 1-866-262-7367. It is also emphasized that all the trials of this needle and similar devices reported in peer reviewed papers relate to the original design of the needle, not to the product marketed by Alkaline Corporation under my name.
